Concept : RETRO MODERN

Nolboo is the most popular spicy sausage stew (부대찌개) specialty store in Korea. Love by many for a long time, its brand image is more of familiarity rather than freshness.

To endow Nolboo a young and sophisticated image to adjust to its constantly changing consumers’ taste and trend, our clients want the interior design reflecting that accordingly with a renewed concept.

Thus, the simple but sophisticated image under the ‘RETRO MODERN’ concept was applied to the spicy sausage stew (부대찌개) restaurant, with which once we were familiar and comfortable.

spicy sausage stew (부대찌개) has been embraced by many since Korean War (Conflict). However, among all customers, families is the majority, comparing to young individuals.

Our client pondered how to make young customers feel welcomed and cool as well families. Thus, we have emerged the retro atmosphere with the modern sensibility in Nolboo restaurant where anyone could sense its differentiation, comparing to the traditional Spicy Sausage Stew restaurant.

The new concept of Nolboo spicy sausage stew (부대찌개) is “RETRO MODERN”
RETRO means reinterpreting the trend of those bygone eras according to current people’s preference. To retain the affection of men and women, young and old toward Nolboo spicy sausage stew (부대찌개), we have created an environment of the retro atmosphere by using the carefully chosen color, materials, and patterns. Through mass, shape, detail, we have successfully make a simple but sophisticated space, which is vintage, but not tacky.

Nolboo Spicy Sausage Stew Gimpo store is located beside the air conditioning chamber. Instead of hiding its entrance, designers decided to paint it red and radically made it a point of this project. Though that design made the entrance stood out, many visitors only regarded it as part of the design, which had nothing to do with the entrance of air conditioning chamber.

Its kitchen also gives a warm feeling expressed by applying a wood finish. Designers use applied stain on the large area of kitchen wall to avoid monotony. The door at the entrance of kitchen seems a real door, but, as a matter of fact, it is a fake door, fixed, to give more diversity in design.

The kitchen window gives a feeling of open space between the kitchen and the hall, meanwhile, designers used a translucent sheet paper with a pattern on it to naturally block the view of the kitchen inside. The sheet paper pattern is similar to the window paper in old days, adding a retro atmosphere.

The new brand concept and Brand Identify (B.I) of Nolboo Spicy Sausage Stew restaurant are the work of DOMUS PARTNERS, design danaham’s partner. For those who are familiar with the previous brand concept and B.I, the new ones would seem somehow fresh. The new B.I is applied in consistency with its menu signboard, and furniture.
